55 Years!
Close to a hundred present and past Rotarians, partners, family and friends celebrated our birthday in style this week at the Bucklands Beach Yacht club. The conversational buzz outside of eating and being entertained was evidence of great fellowship and the opportunity for a catch-up with old acquaintances. As suggested by the principal organiser Ian Handisides, Paul Harris Fellowship medals adorned many a chest to add an extra touch to already impressive attire among the men and the women as usual matched or surpassed this degree of elegance.
A few formalities briefly interrupted the chat as foundation member Bob Ritchie and current President gave reminders of our main achievements over the years and then cut into a beautiful birthday cake.
Entertainment was provided with an hour’s trip down memory lane via the talents of Debbie Dorday and her talented side-kick Jim Jolls. Familiar standards sung by the likes of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Nancy Sinatra, and many others were interspersed with (sometimes slightly non-pc) jokes and semi-bawdy Music Hall type offerings which drew appreciative reaction from the audience. Dramatic costume, wig and character changes added to the glitz and variety of a most enjoyable interlude. Dessert was then served.
