Neil McCorkindale QSM has spent his life dedicated to hockey in all capacities. Now In his 80’s he is a stalwart of the game, year in and year out for over 60years firstly, as a player, then an umpire from aged 12 to the present day, including Auckland Junior, Auckland Senior, Junior NZ, NZ senior, and International. A highlight was umpiring the International World Masters Final 40 year old division Australia V South Africa.   As the Judicial Commissioner he now dedicates his time to volunteering helping across a breadth of challenges, particularly judicial hearings, the Intercity judicial process plus umpiring, mentoring, and match judge,

There are many challenging situations arising from disciplinary action against players and coaches, dealing with liquor breaches at venues across the city, maintaining behavioural standards and helping to eliminate umpire abuse. He is responsible for Code of Conduct, competition playing rules. Neil puts the sport first and works to ensure the participants and their needs are met – particularly where a lengthy suspension and rehabilitation are needed. His manner in dealing with people both on and off the turf is second to none, and diffuses many situations before they reach boiling  point. Neill states his passion “ not just the game but rather correcting unacceptable behaviour thus providing a safe environment for all the enjoy sport without enduring abuse”. Neill states his passion “ not just the game but rather correcting unacceptable behaviour thus providing a safe environment for all the enjoy sport without enduring abuse”.
