Speaker: Deanna Louis
Topic: “The Likoma Island Period Poverty Project: Experiences in Global Health in Malawi”.
Deanna Louis recently completed her medical degree at the University of Auckland where she studied from 2019 - 2024. Earlier this year, she elected to complete 7 weeks of her medical training in Malawi. While in Malawi, she delivered a global health project focused on addressing period poverty on Likoma Island, a rural community in northern Malawi, with the support of Pakuranga Rotary Club. Deanna grew up in Tāmaki Makaurau and attended Glendowie College from 2014 - 2018 where she was President of the Glendowie College Interact Club and attended the Auckland Rotary Model United Nations Assembly. She will be starting work as a doctor at North Shore Hospital in January 2025 and hopes to train in General Practice in the future. Deanna is looking forward to sharing her experiences in Malawi and the impact of Pakuranga Rotary’s generous donation to her project.
There will be a short AGM at the end of the meeting.
