Recently I received a note from past member, Sylvie Wilkinson who as chair of the Rae and Ernie Johnston Memorial Trust, had been able to support Edgewater College with funding for the transport of a very large group to the Big Sing choir competition held at the Town Hall. Below is the report to Sylvie from Shaun who is Head of Music at the school.
"It's been a while since I contacted you, but I wanted to share again my huge thanks to the Rae and Ernie Johnston Memorial Trust for sponsoring our bus expenses to get our kids to the BIG SING this year. Here at Edgewater, we do our best to give opportunities to as many kids as we can and this occasion was one of them.
We managed to take 111 students to the BIG SING this year. We were the biggest choir there, and from the smallest school so that was pretty cool. The kids had a wonderful time. We managed to take them to the Auckland Art Gallery as well and had the chance to do a spontaneous performance in their beautiful atrium. Many of the public heard the singing and quickly became an audience."
