Its very easy to forget the things this club has initiated, achieved, and supported.
I am now on the Trees for Survival Board and while Rotary no longer has such a hands on role its still very well represented on the governance board.
From small begining's, this programme now has in excess of 200 schools actively involved, is set to add another 30 schools in the new year and has an annual operating budget in excess of $1 million.
Once simply an Auckland based programme it has now spread out into many other areas including as far south as Southland.
Funding is increasing being accessed from large corporates and the programme is run by an appointed and highly enthusiastic professional team
Over time its focus has expanded and includes a range of educational goals, environmental goals and community involvement goal but the fundamental focus of involving and enthusing young people about the protection of the environment remains. It is a great example of what a single club with a vision and a small and active team can achieve.
