Georgia (Georgie) Chalmers is being sponsored by the Pakuranga Rotary as an outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student to Denmark. Georgie will depart on her 12 month exchange in January 2018. Originally from Canterbury (cheers of support from some Pakuranga Rotary members!) Georgie’s family moved to Auckland after the Christchurch earthquakes. Georgie then attended Macleans College where she was a very keen hockey player and has just completed her Year 13 studies.

Georgie has wanted to go on a student exchange since year 9 so is very excited to now have that opportunity and she will be hosted by the Rotary club of Holstebro in Jutland which is in the north west of Denmark and is a town of about 35,000 people.

Georgie thanked the Pakuranga Rotary for its generous support of her exchange and promised to keep in touch with updates about her year away.

As we have witnessed through the Pakuranga Rotary's regular sponsorship of outbound NZ students, the RYE program is a wonderful opportunity for a young person (15 – 17 years) to learn about the culture of another country by staying with local families. It is also a time of enormous personal growth and development which helps set them on their future path in the world. Applications are now open for 2019 exchange and members are encouraged to promote the programme to friends, family and business contacts – this will be an exciting opportunity that will interest most young students and all they need is to hear about it. www.youthexchange.org.nz.
