President Elect Duncan Loney: Setting up Bakels new factory in China

With three years’ experience in dealing with Chinese ‘officials’ (whether local, sub-district, district, municipal or provincial!), ‘consultants’, ‘compliance officers’ etc. one fears for the condition of Duncan’s liver as he endured meeting after meeting to help organise the construction of Bakels Dalian in China. In fact, with 36 licenses required and face to face meetings with compliance officers to gain approval for each one, it’s not surprising it has taken so long to get a factory up and running.

Tip Top Schools Day

Peter Woodcock has taken on the responsibility of co-ordinating the organisation of the Tip Top Schools Day, set down for SUNDAY 25 March at Edgewater College.

Please contact him with offers of assistance (peterjwoo@xtra.co.nz) in doing the multitude of preliminary ‘jobs’ required to make this a successful day – especially if there was a task you helped with in past years. Key responsibilities will be in organising the man-power (we hope to get some support from neighbouring Rotary Clubs), the parking, and gear check. On the day itself we look forward to ‘all hands on deck’!

Rotary District 9920 Conference

Bula, Bula everyone!

I have the exciting task of promoting our District Conference to be held at the amazing Sofitel Resort on Denarau Island, Fiji, from Friday 6th April 2018 through to Sunday 8th April.

Knowing that some of you already are thinking and planning your next year’s travel, I thought it timely to slot in these dates for you to consider.  As you all know, the Pakuranga Rotary has a very good record for winning the attendance trophy and this time we have a huge bonus as travel distance comes into the formula.  Conferences are always a highlight on the Rotary calendar for great fellowship, fun, and the opportunity to meet other Rotarians and partners from other clubs in our district.  Obviously, attendees may well want to extend their pre-winter holiday by staying on another island before or after the conference.  Remember that our NZ dollar actually buys FJD$1.37.

Hope you can attend the Conference and support President Dave and Liz.
