It is never easy to raise money for a locally made film. Alex Lovell of Run Charlie Films had previously pitched his idea to the Pakuranga Rotary. With our support and the support of NZ Film Commission, online funding and private donations and three years of hard work a film has been made. On Monday night the Pakuranga Rotary was treated to an investors preview of a short film, “My Friend Michael Jones”. The film explored the powerful social issues of bullying, youth suicide and the pressures on LGBT young people. Set in South Auckland, with talented Pasifika cast, the film did not shy away from the hard questions and was an honest and moving portrayal of the realities of life for many. Ultimately it was story of friendship and redemption.
